Koch Brothers: Clean Up Your Petcoke Mess!

Something disgusting is going on in Chicago right now. Nasty tar sands are being processed for oil in Chicago and Koch Industries-owned KCBX Terminals has been contracted to dispose of the waste from refining. The problem is that the Koch Brothers are not properly containing the waste, and now harsh chemicals are being blown all over the southeastern part of the Windy City.

Everyday citizens living in Chicago have to contend with petroleum coke (petcoke) and coal particles polluting their air. Call on the Koch Brothers to properly dispose of their waste so that Chicago residents can breathe in peace.

Tell the Koch Brothers to stop being nasty and contain the coal and coke debris!

This isn’t the first time Koch Industries has been caught improperly disposing of its dirty tar sand processing waste - the same thing happened in Detroit too! A video surfaced of voluminous clouds of petcoke flying over the Detroit River, which came from a Koch Industries-owned pile that was supposed to be covered.

All this petcoke and coal debris is a result of mining dirty Canadian tar-sands for oil. The Koch Brothers are responsible for cleaning up the waste, but is skirting its responsibilities by failing to ensure the petcoke is disposed of correctly.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) ordered the terminal owners in Chicago to install pollution monitors for the piles of petcoke and coal, but we believe they can do a lot more - cover the waste to prevent it from seeping into the Calumet river and blowing into the wind.

According to the Tesoro Safety Data Sheet, petcoke debris can be combustible in the air, and cause eye, skin and respiratory irritation if people are excessively exposed to it. The residents of East and Southeast Chicago do not deserve to have their health compromised because the Koch Brothers are too lazy to do their jobs.

Take a stand with the residents of Chicago and tell the Koch Brothers to cover their mess!

Thanks for all that you do,
