15 billion dollar -- that's how much the Canadian corporation TransCanada is suing the US government for. All, because Obama stopped a controversial, climate-destroying pipeline.

TransCanada is using the free trade agreement NAFTA as a basis to sue the US government. Lawsuits like these could become regular news soon, if we allow another, even bigger free trade agreement to pass: TTIP.

The EU-US trade agreement will give big polluters a whole toolbox to bully governments with if they dare to make people-friendly and environment-friendly laws. Our governments, the European Commission and European Parliament can stop the deal, but they're already heavily invested in it, and Brussels is flooded with corporate lobbyists.

Money gives corporations a voice. But, if we come together our voices can be incredibly powerful too. Faced with an ever-growing opposition against the deal, the European Commission is already struggling to sell TTIP to the public. If we keep on raising our voices, our European leaders won't be able to ignore them.

2015 is set to be the warmest year on record. People around the world are suffering deadly floods, bitter droughts, and raging forest fires like never before. One thing is clear: We desperately need to take action against climate change. And TTIP is one of the biggest threats to real climate action.

The trade pact doesn't only grant companies the right to sue governments over lost profits -- it allows corporations to co-write regulations, so they can remove the bits they don't like.

And that's not all. TTIP increases fossil fuel imports into Europe -- resulting in more fracking in the US, an increased reliance on fossil fuels in the EU and more climate emissions across the board.

In short: TTIP spells disaster for our climate.

SumOfUs members campaign to stop climate destroying projects around the world: In Canada the SumOfUs community is supporting an indigenous community in their legal battle against Kinder Morgan: The fossil fuel giant wants to build a dirty pipeline right through their lands. In the United States, tens of thousands of us have raised our voice against the planet-killing Keystone XL pipeline and wrote to President Obama directly. Now, the pipeline is dead.

Let's keep fighting for a our planet's future and ensure that big polluters don't get their way with TTIP!
